Spring has... sprung and that means it's time to get planting some lovely seeds and bulbs ready to transform your yard later this year. But, where to put all these newly sowed pots and trays?
While it can be a space-consuming task, there's a genius hack that I've just found that'll transform your home – and it's also super affordable.
All you need is a shoe rack. That's right, the place you normally put all your boots, sandals, sneakers, etc. throughout the year is actually a really handy shelf for placing your seedlings and giving them space to grow. And all I needed to do to find it was head down a rabbit hole on TikTok. Here's how it works.
How it works

TikTok creator, @new.house.home, shares yard care tips with her over 50k followers and this spring planting hack is one she loves to share year after year. As she says, "This is by far one of the best gardening hacks I've ever discovered on social media." And I'm happy to admit, I totally agree.
She demonstrates that while you can place your planted seeds in their trays onto your windowsills, you might not always have the space or the right amount of sunlight that you need in those locations.
She explains then that to work around this problem, you can grab a cheap shoe rack and transform it into a "seed starting station". Then, you've got several portable shelves in one place that you can move around your home, whether that's on worktops or by your porch doors, to give your plants (and you) the extra space needed.
And while you can certainly buy a new shoe rack, you could always repurpose one you already have around your home. Of course, then you'll have to find somewhere to put all your shoes...
Why I'll be using this hack

Having recently moved, I've got some yard work to do ready for summer and a lot less money to spend on it than I'd like. So, I'll definitely be using this clever hack considering how affordable it is and how much space it'll save me.
Fortunately, I'm also looking to level up my shoe storage after learning I've been storing my shoes all wrong, which means I've got an old shoe rack that's ready to be repurposed for my spring planting. That's another $20 saving and a portable plant station ready to be moved around my home with ease – and out of the way of my little kids!
