If you’re not canoodling it up on Valentine’s night— support Turkey and Syria at Camden’s Jazz Cafe for Choose Love Live’s first live music event.
This coming Tuesday, the charity will be hosting a poignant night on the 14th February, with 100% of profits going to Choose Love’s Turkey and Syria emergency earthquake response appeal.
The intimate gig will boast live performances from major artists including Graham Coxon with his new project in collaboration with Rose Elinor Doughall, The Waeve. Musicians, The Big Pink, Gia Ford and Nuha Ruby Ra will also be joining with some special curated DJ sets from Swim Deep, Lou Hayter and Nadine Shah.
The earthquake, which happened on Monday morning (6th February) near the Turkish town of Gaziantep, had a magnitude of 7.8 with aftershocks reverberating across the region into the following hours. The effects, both primary and secondary, have been devastating. Thousands of buildings in both countries have collapsed as a result of the disaster, people have been trapped under debris and as of today, the death toll has reached 19,000, with that figure sadly still rising.
The humanitarian organisation was founded in 2015 with the aim of supporting refugees from around the world. Funds raised from the event will provide those uprooted from their homes with relief– everything from rescue boats and food to shelter and legal advice. Grounded on an ethos of justice and freedom for all, the charity has helped over 4 million displaced people since it was initially formed.
