This ostentatious Apple Vision Pro is made with 18-karat gold

The Apple Vision Pro is a headset for the 1 per cent. Despite the glowing first impressions, most people probably won’t shell out upwards of £2,700 to play with its mixed-reality apps and games.

But, for those who think that price is chump change, there’s an even more lavish version on the way.

A jeweler called Caviar is releasing an ultra-exclusive Apple Vision Pro worth £31,000. The custom headset is made with 18-karat gold and features flip-down shades to hide the digital version of your eyes that Apple’s device creates. The so-called EyeSight feature on the original Apple Vision Pro looked a bit too eerie for some, but coughing up an extra £30,000 to mask it seems ludicrous.

As for that comfy headband Apple has been touting, here it’s made of leather from a British company called Connolly Leather, which was once a supplier to luxury car makers such as Rolls Royce. The firm went out of business in 2002 after an ill-fated attempt to crack the US market, but was revived a year later.

If you don’t like the uncanny digital eyes Apple’s headset creates, this custom version can hide them behind its drop-down shade (Caviar International)

All told, the custom headset comes off as a gaudy attempt to make some extra cash from the hottest new tech gadget. It doesn’t help that it looks like an amalgam of the worst design cues from Louis Vuitton, Gucci and Tom Ford.

The “VR” branding splattered across the rear strap also looks oddly out of place as the Vision Pro is more of an augmented reality device.

That means it enables the wearer to view digital apps and games overlaid on top of their real-world surroundings, which can be controlled using your eyes and hands. In fact, Apple barely mentioned the terms virtual reality or metaverse during the Vision Pro’s unveiling in June.

You’re bound to attract a lot of attention when you wear Apple’s headset, but the gold version is likely to turn even more heads - or get you mugged.

If you’re still interested, you can buy the Apple Vision Pro: CVR Edition when all 24 units land in the autumn of next year. Caviar International is based out of Dubai and also makes custom iPhones, including a white gold model encrusted with diamonds.
