Ben Simmons and Seth Curry are reportedly on their way to the Brooklyn Nets, joining a team already armed with Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving.
Simmons, who is a top-tier defensive player in the NBA, is also one of the most intriguing playmakers in the league. As a facilitator, he gets to dish to Durant and Irving on a team coached by Steve Nash — who was an offensive genius during his playing career.
Although this is not exactly what the Nets envisioned when they traded for James Harden last year, Simmons is significantly younger. He is still just 25 years old and has plenty of years left in the tank to contribute at the highest level of play.
Unfortunately, we won’t soon see what this team has to offer at its full strength. Durant and Nets sharpshooter Joe Harris are both currently injured and Simmons hasn’t played a professional game since June 2021.
Brooklyn has lost nine consecutive games, however, so there is some urgency to get back towards the top of the standings in the Eastern Conference. Until then, we can fantasize about what this team will look like when healthy.
