Royal Caribbean has come under fire from cruise-goers for being “cheap” after quietly removing a much-loved perk from its two most expensive drinks packages — the Coca-Cola souvenir cup.
This cup is extra popular because it unlocks self-serve “freestyle” Coca-Cola machines located throughout the ship.
The touchscreen dispensers let users mix and match hundreds of flavors for an unlimited number of drinks and are activated by a radio chip embedded in the souvenir cup.
For bookings made from March 15, 2026, the cup will cost a one-time fee of $4.99 for those purchasing the top-tier "Refreshment” ($29-$42) and "Deluxe Beverage” ($50-$120) packages.
Ironically, the souvenir cup is still included with the most basic drinks deal, the “Classic Soda” ($12–$18), though each guest receives only one cup and must pay to replace it.
The Refreshment Package includes soda, premium coffees and teas, juices, bottled water, and mocktails, while the Deluxe option includes all of these drinks plus cocktails, beer, and wine by the glass.
In addition to freestyle access, the Soda package entitles the user to unlimited fountain sodas.
The change in policy regarding the souvenir cup wasn’t formally announced by Royal Caribbean but noticed by travelers reviewing their cruise planners for upcoming trips, according to Royal Caribbean Blog.
Despite the souvenir cup only costing $4.99, some have taken to the internet to voice their disapproval of its removal from the premium drinks packages. On a Reddit thread, one user said: “This is not going to work well. Stop being such cheapskates, RCL.”
Another commented: “Oh, this makes me so angry. I purchased the Refreshment Package so we could have that cup and smoothies.”
For commenter “kanid99”, the new policy seemed “very nickel and dimey.”
