This Morning's James Martin lost five stone 'eating butter'

TV chef James Martin has shared what changes he made in his diet in order to lose an incredible five stone in just a couple of months.

James, 49, who regularly appears on This Morning, has made healthier choices in recent years, after a dramatic weight loss changed his outlook on what he eats.

He said he found that when he was competing on Strictly Come Dancing, the energy spent during the series led him to make some life-changing alterations to his diet, the Mirror reports.

In just one week on the BBC dance show, James said that he shed a stone in weight.

Two months later, when his run on the show came to an end, he said he had dropped five stone.

While exercising helped his weight loss a great deal, he said that a healthier diet and, most importantly, cutting back on fatty foods, helped keep him slim.

Speaking about his diet, James said: "It’s hard work because I’m a big bloke so I’ve really got to watch what I eat and drink, and make sure I exercise regularly."

But the TV star does not think butter should be removed from a person's diet.

He even wrote a book about the stuff, entitled Butter: Comforting, Delicious, Versatile – Over 130 Recipes Celebrating Butter.

Speaking to The Herald last November: “It’s not the butter consumption.

“It’s the ready-made food, it’s the packet food, the hidden salt, hidden fat – that’s the problem in this country.

“It's not the butter in a butter block, or butter you put on your toast.

“It's the fact that not as many people cook in the UK as they do in France or Italy or Spain.”
