This Morning's Holly Willoughby shares real reason for changing her hair after he eight-year-old son helped with new look

Holly Willoughby has given a much deeper reason for undergoing the chop after sharing how her eight-year-old son helped her get her new hairdo. The presenter returned to screens on This Morning on Monday (January 9) for the first time this year alongside Phillip Schofield.

Holly, 41, debuted her fresh, shorter blonde locks after surprising fans last summer when she showed off her long tresses. But ahead of her return to the ITV daytime show over the weekend, the mum-of-three shared a short clip with her millions of followers which showed her son Chester's little hands using silver hairdressing scissors to chop inches off her hair.

She captioned the post to her 8.1million followers: "Chester decided it was time...when your 8-year-old gets hold of the scissors". The TV star could be heard saying to Chester in the clip: "Are you ready?" before gasping when he made the first snip before nervously adding: "Make sure it's nice and straight!"

Prior to appearing on screen for her first This Morning of 2023, Holly had a different way of sending well wishes to her millions of followers as she took to Instagram with an outfit post. It is somewhat of a tradition for the mum-of-three to pop onto the photo-sharing platform and share a first look at what she's wearing for each show and let her followers know where it is from.

Sharing her first of the year, Holly typed: "Good morning and happy new hair! Can’t wait to catch up and see you on @thismorning at 10am…" Fellow This Morning host Alison Hammond was among the first to respond, simply writing: "Stunning," alongside a love heart emoji.

But opening up to subscribers to her wellness brand and website, WYLDE Moon, Holly has spoken at length about her decision to change up her hair. "I decided to start the year with a new hair cut... for that feeling of cutting away all the bad energy and starting a fresh," she typed in her latest newsletter.

"Hair and changing it seems subconsciously to have a link to renewal and we believe if we change ourselves externally, miraculously, we shift something internally! It’s not possible for scissors hold so much power and yet we really buy into this theory. We’ve all heard of the of the 'revenge haircut'. I started to explore what it means holistically. In actual fact, spiritually, it’s more common to NOT cut your hair and there are many religions, cultures, and traditions believe that their spirituality is totally connected to their hair and that cutting your hair is akin to cutting away a part of your identity.

"They would never dream of having a new me, new haircut. Some believing long hair is an outward show of a healthy biology, a show of how healthy you are that you can grow a head of long luscious locks."

She later added: "For me personally, it felt nice to have a change, and as much as I loved my long hair, which was a style I had for years, somehow going back to the bob felt more me, so for now I’m enjoying it! Hey, it grows right?…and I’m up for growth in all aspects."

And Holly also shared how she has been doing a bit of self-reflection and thinking about what worked, and what didn't. She shared: "For the things that didn’t work, I asked myself why they didn’t and why I couldn’t stick to them. Perhaps it’s just because my heart wasn’t in it, or whatever it was wasn’t right for me at the time .What’s important is not to see it as a failing, but something to learn from, opportunities for new growth."
