This Morning's Holly and Phillip force 'strategic' move from bosses as they take over Friday

Phillip Schofield claimed This Morning bosses made a 'deliberate' move as he and Holly Willoughby unexpectedly hosted Friday's show.

It's usually the job of regular Friday double act Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary to front the ITV programme's final episode of the week, so it came as a bit of a surprise to many viewers watching at her home when, at the end of her show, Lorraine Kelly crossed live to the This Morning studio to be greeted by Holly and Phillip, rather than their colleagues.

As they teased what was coming up on the show, the presenters mentioned that there would be some Christmas drink testing, to which Lorraine quipped that they should 'send some over' if there was any left, with Phillip replying that that was highly unlikely. Minutes later, cameras started rolling on This Morning, with Holly and Phillip preceded by a rendition of famous Christmas song Carol of the Bells, which Holly remarked was Phillip's favourite.

In the opening moments of the show, Holly and Phillip informed viewers of what was to come, with them revealing that food and drinks correspondent Helen McGinn would be joining them to go through some of the best festive drinks of the market this year. Regular contributor Helen then appeared on set with rinks in front of her, saying: "We've gone all out. We've got gin with gold bits in, we've got gin liqueurs that light up; we've got some really gorgeous whiskeys, sloe gin, chocolate and chestnut liqueur...I can't wait."

And it was then that Phillip confirmed that would be at the end of the live broadcast, adding: " At the end of the show." After Holly replied: "That's why they've put it at the end," Phillip added: "We'll be rolling out of here!"
