Alison Hammond has opened up about a family member's ongoing health battle as she revealed she has been in and out of hospital to visit her unwell niece.
The This Morning host was discussing the day's news alongside Dermot O'Leary and Carol Vorderman, including the results of a recent survey which revealed that one in three NHS staff members would be unhappy to have their relatives treated in the same hospital where they work. Carol was the first to admit that she was "really shocked" by the findings, while Alison described them as "really worrying".
Carol said of NHS staff: "I think they’re very tired. These people have been through a trauma and then we've had the strikes. They're exhausted. They're on their knees."

She went on: "They were saying that for a lot of them, the system and the tiredness is preventing them from doing their job properly. So the question, can we trust the NHS to give decent care?"
But Alison added a "caveat" to the discussion as she revealed she had been making a series of hospital visits while a family member endures health issues, The Mirror reports. "I definitely need to say, my niece is in hospital right now. I've been going back and forward," the presenter said.
"She's doing really well, by the way, but the NHS staff have been absolutely amazing. So, yes this story is worrying, but she has been treated amazingly."
And guest Nick Ferrari shared a similar story, telling the hosts that he had been visiting his partner's son in hospital for over two weeks following a "horrific" rugby injury. The radio presenter said: "I’m telling you now it was absolutely exemplary.
"They were absolutely fantastic. I saw them. They are working a hell of a shift. What I saw, you could not improve."
