This Morning make show 'first' with change to presenting team

This Morning welcomed a deaf chef to the cooking segment, a first for the show.

Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield pulled up a plate as they readied themself for the Tex-Mex favourite, spicy chimichangas. The kitchen was fuller than usual as they invited not one guest to the show, but three.

Yvonne Cob marked a major milestone for the show as she became their first-ever deaf guest chef. Despite the cooking segment featuring endless guests and familiar faces over the years, they have never welcomed a deaf chef in their entire 34-year run.

Holly and Phil said she would be joined by an interpreter in the studio, Pascal, and another for viewers watching at home, Sandy. Holly mentioned that accessing recipes can be difficult for deaf people before requesting an explanation as to why.

Yvonne said: "Sign language is a very visual language which means English has a very different structure to British Sign Language (BSL). Lots of schools don't teach BSL so for deaf children they would need to learn sign language first before English so I'm trying to make sure there's more presentations on television and I'm signing the recipes.

"I've been feeling very honoured over the years as young children and older people are feeling more confident in the kitchen. This is my dream come true being here. I'm so proud to be deaf. I am deaf. That's who I am."
