This Morning fans outraged as classic Scottish dish 'butchered' on Burns Night

Scots This Morning viewers were left completely outraged today as the show celebrated Burns Night by making popular Scots dish stovies.

Fans of the show said the recipe was so off the mark from traditional stovies that Rabbie Burns would be 'turning in his grave'.

Holly and Phil were joined in the studio kitchen by cook Suzanne Mulholland who was showing them how to create her take on stovies, but fans weren't happy and said it was not a true portrayal of the dish and resembled 'corned beef hash' more than anything. Others were outraged over tomatoes included in the dish.

Suzanne demonstrated how to create the one pan dish and added corned beef and tomatoes.

But viewers took to Twitter to express their anger.

One viewer was outraged, they wrote: "TOMATOES IN STOVIES ARE YOU F*****G KIDDING ME, Rabbie Burns will be turning in his bloody grave."

One wrote: "Sorry no tomatoes in traditional Scottish stovies."

Another fumed: "Anyone who claims that is stovies should be disowned by Scotland. That was a corned beef hash and not even a good one at that!!!!"

One added: "That was in no way stovies, and any Scot who says otherwise should be disowned by the rest of the nation!!!!"

Another said: "Wow @thismorning seriously stovies is not “corn beef hash” weirdest Scottish take on stovies ever!!! Tomatoes? worcestershire sauce?."

Holly and Phil tucked into the dish (ITV grab)

One wrote: "#ThisMorning stovies are a #Hogmanay dish. A Scot would be disappointed to sit down to a plate on #BurnsNight. A fantastic dish, but not tonight thanks @thismorning."

Last week, Holly and Phil got stuck into haggis toasties, Scottish beer and a big bowl of haggis, neeps and tatties on the show as they spoke about all things Burns Night.

The pair were joined in the studio by Deeny's Scottish Flavour toastie van who rustled up some haggis goodness for them.

Phil tucked right into the 'hearty' grub, where as Holly opted for the vegetarian option - which was the veggie haggis, cheese, caramelised onions, mustard and garlic butter.

He said: "I'm going for the full on haggis version, because I love it!"

Holly tucked in and said: "That's tasty!" To which Phil added: "That's hearty! That's going to warm you up and keep you going."
