This Morning confirms this week's replacements after Phillip Schofield leaves show

This Morning has revealed who will replace Phillip Schofield this week after the presenter left the programme.

Holly Willoughby is also currently missing from her role at the helm of the daytime show.

Releasing a statement on Saturday (May 20), Phillip, 61, announced he had quit the show he had hosted for more than 20 years and confirmed he had presented his final episode on Thursday, May 18. Phillip will continue to present peak time shows for ITV including next month’s The British Soap Awards and a new prime time series.

In a statement he said: “I have always been proud to cover fascinating stories on This Morning. But recently, This Morning itself has become the story.

“Throughout my career in TV – including the very difficult last few days – I have always done my best to be honourable and kind. I understand that ITV has decided the current situation can’t go on, and I want to do what I can to protect the show that I love.

“So I have agreed to step down from This Morning with immediate effect, in the hope that the show can move forward to a bright future. I’d like to thank everyone who has supported me – especially This Morning’s amazing viewers – and I’ll see you all for the Soap Awards next month.”

Since his statement, it is understood Holly Willoughby will also be taking an early break from the show and will not be returning until June 5.

Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary, who usually present the show on Fridays, stepped in on Monday. During Tuesday's instalment of Lorraine it was confirmed the pair would also front the programme today (Tuesday, May 23).

It is not known for how long Alison and Dermot will host This Morning.
