The cold snap which has seen temperatures plunge to well below zero is to finally come to an end - with warmer conditions on the way. People across the region have been left shivering in recent weeks, facing continued chilly warnings for snow, ice and freezing temperatures.
Some areas have seen snow while other roads have become impassable due to black ice. But there is some good news on the way for those keen to see the end of the icy conditions.
Milder conditions - and some rain - is on the way, but not for a few days yet. Today will continue to feel cold with freezing fog in some areas. But there will be plenty of winter sunshine for those wanting to wrap up warm and head out.

Tonight will also see temperatures plummet to a bone chilling -4C, but cloud is likely to move in overnight which will see the mercury climb and perhaps bring some drizzle to some areas. Frosts are still possible overnight next week but things are due to turn milder.
The Met Office said: "The cold spell will come to an end later this week and through the weekend across western areas, where it will turn milder and windier with some rain at times." According to its long-range weather forecast, temperatures between Monday, January 23 and Wednesday, February 1 are "likely to be close to or slightly above average overall, especially further northwest."
Between February 2 and February 16, the last of the cold weather is expected to be 'short-lived', with the Met Office adding: "Temperatures likely to be around or slightly above average, with any colder spells being short-lived."
Not quite sunglasses and shorts weather yet, but it's a start.
