BORIS Johnson has received a gift from his Cabinet colleagues to "thank him for his service to the country".
The caretaker Prime Minister, who will step down in September, was presented with first edition copies of Winston Churchill’s books on the Second World War.
Churchill is famously a hero of Johnson, with the outgoing PM having penned a book titled The Churchill Factor: How One Man Made History.
Online, first editions of the texts range in price from hundreds to thousands of pounds for the full set of volumes.
Speaking on the present, a No 10 spokesperson said: "At the conclusion of Cabinet, the Prime Minister was presented with gifts to thank him for his service to the country, including first editions of Winston Churchill’s books on the Second World War."
Gifts from the Cabinet upon a Prime Minister leaving post are somewhat of a tradition, with Tony Blair's government supposedly asked to pay £80 each for his present in 2007, according to The Times.
The presentation comes ahead of Boris Johnson's final Prime Minister's Questions as Tory leader on Wednesday with Parliament set to break up for recess.
The contest to decide who will take Johnson's place continues as four candidates are left battling it out for the top spot.
As well as taking the spot of Tory leader, the successful MP will also become Prime Minister of the United Kingdom when Johnson's tenure is up on September 6.
