This Is the Exact Spot to Grow Star Jasmine for Good Luck, According to Feng Shui – To Invite a Summer of Abundance

Plants have long held symbolism across many cultures, influencing the way people grow them and position them in their homes and gardens. This includes star jasmine, thought to represent love and prosperity.

It's one of the luckiest plants to grow in your garden in a Feng Shui context. 'Star jasmine represents more than beauty, it symbolizes graceful growth, harmony, and the quiet unfolding of abundance. It has a gentle, welcoming Qi (life force energy) that softens a home's exterior and creates a peaceful atmosphere,' explains Feng Shui practitioner Helen Ye Plehn. With fragrant white blooms that climb and sprawl over trellises, fences, and walls, star jasmine is an abundant and uplifting vine to grow.

But, to truly reap the rewards of star jasmine, Helen notes it's important to know where to grow star jasmine for good luck. Here, she explains more.

What Does Star Jasmine Represent?

Star jasmine is loved for its iconic white star-shaped blooms that have a sweet, floral scent.

You can find a star jasmine vine at Plant Addicts. Or, if you want to grow star jasmine in a pot, you can find a potted star jasmine on Amazon.

'In Feng Shui, star jasmine (Trachelospermum jasminoides) symbolizes a few things,' says Helen.

'Love and harmonious relationships through its sweet, uplifting fragrance. Also purity and spiritual growth, as white flowers are associated with clarity, higher consciousness, and divine light,' she explains.

Star jasmine's climbing habit also signals abundance and growth, Helen notes.

'It represents prosperity that unfolds gradually, since it is a climbing evergreen that steadily expands over time rather than producing sudden bursts of growth,' she explains.

When it comes to Feng Shui plants, both indoors and out, one of the most important things to get right is placement. For star jasmine, Helen says there are a few optimal spots in the garden.

'The ideal placement depends on what you want to enhance.

'For abundance and wealth, plant it in the southeast area of your garden, which corresponds to wealth and prosperity in the traditional Feng Shui energy map (the Bagua),' she explains.

'Allow it to climb a healthy trellis or arbor, symbolizing expanding opportunities and steady financial growth. This will ensure the energy rises gracefully instead of sprawling on the ground,' Helen adds.

If there isn't an obvious structure for your star jasmine to climb in the southeast of your garden, like a wall, you can install something like this freestanding Wayfair trellis. I also like this raised bed planter with a trellis from Amazon which provides ample planting space.

'For love and relationships, place star jasmine in the southwest area to encourage loving relationships, partnership, and family harmony,' Helen says.

'Its fragrance naturally invites people to slow down, connect, and enjoy the space together. And make sure to enjoy its fragrance intentionally. In Feng Shui, engaging the senses elevates the energy of a space. The calming scent of star jasmine can help reduce stress and create an environment where intuition and creativity flourish,' she continues.

This also makes star jasmine a beautiful plant to make your patio smell nice, filling your outdoor dining area with an inviting scent.

'Star jasmine also works beautifully near the front pathway, gate, or entry, where its scent welcomes positive Qi before it enters the home,' Helen adds.

'Just avoid allowing it to completely block the entrance or cover the front door, as Qi should be able to flow freely,' she advises.

Of course, you also shouldn't neglect star jasmine's growing needs, as a struggling plant is far from lucky.

'Keep it well maintained. Dead flowers, tangled vines, or neglected growth can represent stagnant Qi,' Helen says.

These flowering climbers thrive in full sun to partial shade, it needs well-draining, fertile soil, and it should be sheltered from harsh, cold wind. Don't forget to also prune star jasmine after if flowers in late summer.

This star jasmine vine arrives 3-5" tall, ready to be planted with a trellis to climb.
