Based on Adam Kay's memoir, This Is Going To Hurt returns to our screens tonight (Tuesday, February 15) on BBC One for episode two. The distressing yet heartwarming series provides a candid look at the pressure on healthcare workers in various sectors.
Each episode is heartbreaking enough, giving viewers an insight into the challenges faced by Adam, played by Ben Whishaw, and his colleagues. But tonight's episode follows Adam as he recovers from a huge loss.
Behind the scenes, Ben was instructed not to speak to his co-star, Ambika Mod. In the show, Ambika plays Shruti, a new colleague of Adam's who he is given the task of overseeing, the Daily Express reports.

This Is Going To Hurt mostly focuses on the obstetrics and gynaecology department, as viewers watch in despair as Adam and his colleagues are pushed to their limits. Huge pressure comes with being responsible for women's sexual and reproductive health.
Although Adam does not immediately see eye to eye with Shruti, the pair grow closer over time. However, the producers of This Is Going To Hurt did not allow Ambika and Ben to get to know each other off-screen.
When asked whether their relationship was something the stars talked about, Mod and Whishaw sat in silence and smiled, before Whishaw said 'no'.
According to the Express, the actor said: "I talked to Lucy [Forbes - director] a lot and I'm sure Ambika talked to Lucy a lot. But we didn't talk together that much, sometimes that doesn't really help anyway, you know."
Mod then revealed that she and Whishaw were set to take part in a session together, before Lucy intervened. She said: "Lucy was like 'no I don't want you guys to talk, you shouldn't be friends'.
"But no, we didn't really talk about it, it just sort of happened."
Lucy said that she wanted to see the pair's relationship grow naturally. The director said: "You see their friendship grow on screen and we pretty much shot the show in order.
"So that's why I didn't want them to meet or get to know each other or rehearse together too much. Because you want to feel that... Ambika feeling a bit scared opposite Ben in the first few days is a good thing.
"This is all stuff to lean into. Their friendship progresses as the series goes on as it did on set."
In the first episode of the series, Shruti was invited to help Adam with a complex surgical procedure. Unfortunately, Adam ends up losing the patient, leaving him beside himself with guilt.
