Jay Vine was the picture of emotion after winning the first big mountainous stage of the Vuelta a Espana in front of his wife and baby son in Andorra, the mountainous principality that's become the Australian's European home.
The brilliant Queenslander enjoyed one of his occasional super-charged days, taking full advantage of not being a threat in the overall standings as he was given the freedom to attack and power to a solo triumph by 54 seconds on the sixth stage, a 170.3km slog from Olot to the Andorran ski resort of Pal.
There on Thursday, he was greeted by wife Bre with their son Harrison, who was born just over a year ago during a traumatic 2024 season for Vine when he even feared for his life after a potentially career-ending crash left him with broken vertebrae.
