This Hardcore Toyota GR Yaris Was Designed For The Track

the breakdown

  • Toyota debuted the track-focused GR Yaris Morizo RR at the Tokyo Auto Salon.
  • It gets sharper suspension, an upgraded AWD system, and lightweight carbon aero.
  • Only 200 units worldwide, with pricing yet to be announced.

Just when you thought the global GR Yaris couldn’t get any cooler, Toyota went and debuted this. It’s called the GR Yaris Morizo RR—a limited Yaris designed for the track. It made its world debut at this year’s Tokyo Auto Salon.

The GR Yaris Morizo RR leans hard into its motorsports DNA. Developed with direct input from Toyota chairman Akio Toyoda, the Morizo RR builds on lessons learned from endurance racing—including the Nürburgring 24 Hours.

The car uses the same Direct Automatic transmission from the GR Corolla here in the States, tuned for faster shifts and improved control. The suspension also gets even sharper, and there’s a new dedicated 4WD mode with a 50:50 torque split.

Visually, the Morizo RR certainly looks the part. It has a carbon-fiber rear wing and front spoiler that increase downforce while helping reduce weight. Yellow brake calipers add some contrast to the Gravel Khaki paint, and the interior gets a few subtle upgrades, most notably a special suede-finished racing steering wheel.

Toyota only plans to build 200 examples of the GR Yaris Morizo RR worldwide, split evenly between Japan and Europe. Interested buyers will have to enter a lottery system if they hope to get their hands on one. One thing we still don’t know is how much this special GR Yaris will cost.

We can only imagine how expensive it will be given its rarity.

Motor1's Take: The GR Yaris rules. This one rules even harder. Make a GR Corolla Morizzo RR, you cowards.
