This George at Asda swimsuit could be from Hunza G – but it’s £180 less

Shop designer lookalike bikinis, scoop-back swimsuits and more from the supermarket retailer - (George at Asda)

Ever since the brand relaunched in 2015, a swimsuit from Hunza G secured the top spot on every fashion follower’s wishlist. The label first rose to fame after Julia Roberts donned her famous Hunza (the G wasn’t affixed until later) blue and white mini dress for her role as Vivian Pretty Woman. Hunza G’s popularity endures 36 years on – and so does its sky-high pricing.

With the brand’s swimsuits and bikinis costing between £129 (Farfetch.com) and £195 (Selfridges.com), these luxury pieces aren’t justifiable for most of us. So, upon hearing that George at Asda had dropped near-identical designs for a fraction of the price, I rushed onto the supermarket’s website.

As it happens, the retailer is offering no less than four Hunza G-inspired items, and even offers a post-surgery swimsuit (£12.80, Asda.com) for women recovery from mastectomies or similar procedures. This isn’t the first time George’s affordable fashions have taken a leaf out of the luxury fashion houses – senior shopping writer Daisy Lester recently reported how its supermarket puffer coat looked remarkably similar to the high-end styles of Ganni. Even in the homeware department, I’ve spotted on-trend lighting pieces that look straight out of Soho Home, but cost less than £20.

Now, George’s new-in swimwear is awash with Hunza G’s signature crinkle fabric and scoop-back swimsuits. Scroll on for the season’s must-have swimwear and don’t hang about – I have a feeling these affordable finds won’t be available for long.

Hunza G lookalikes from George at Asda

Comparable to Hunza G’s Faye crinkle swimsuit (£175, Net-a-porter.com), this olive-hued piece features padded cups for comfort and is available in UK sizes 8-22.

Hunza G’s original square neck swimsuit (£129, Farfetch.com) is the one that most fashion devotees look to buy and, likewise, this square neck imitation from Asda is the item I’ll be rushing to secure. Available in standard and post-surgery designs (£12.80, Asda.com), this flattering silhouette elongates the body with a deep scooped back and high (ish) leg cut-outs. Plus, while Hunza G famously sports a ‘one size fits all policy’, anyone with a larger dress size won’t feel left out with George’s more inclusive 8-26 size range.

Admittedly, most of the Hunza G two-pieces opt for a classic O-ring in the centre of their tops, but I can’t say I dislike the shell detailing George has opted for instead. Again constructed from crinkle fabric with a shape that’s reminiscent of its luxury counterpart’s Nadine bikini (£185, Libertylondon.com), I certainly won’t be turning my nose up at this £170 saving – especially when you add the bonus of a clasp fixing to save you wrestling it over your head in the heat of summer.

With piped edging and an overall design that – to the untrained eye – could definitely pass for Hunza G’s tyler bikini (£195, Selfridges.com), this olive two-piece provides additional fit detailing that £195 won’t buy you. Namely, you’ll benefit from adjustable straps on the top and an elasticated waist on the bottom, meaning your bust and midriff can remain comfortable and secure from poolside to seaside.
