Electric scooters are usually pretty easy to understand. You get a battery, a motor, enough speed to survive city traffic, and maybe an app that tells you where you parked the thing. Niu apparently looked at that formula and decided it needed more electronics. Its new FQiX 300 is a compact urban scooter with the sort of rider-aid list you'd normally expect to see much farther up the motorcycle food chain.
The FQiX 300 gets ABS, traction control, blind-spot detection, automatic hold, GPS tracking, and an integrated anti-theft system. There's also a 5-inch color TFT display, smartphone connectivity, navigation, Bluetooth, NFC unlocking, over-the-air updates, USB-A and USB-C ports, and even reverse assist. In other words, this thing has more menus than some motorcycles costing several times as much.
