This cafe in Japan is only for writers on a deadline, and they won't let them leave until their goal is met

Many writers and creative people prefer a change from their routine, like working in cafes or hill stations, to motivate them to have better productivity. Taking this thought a step ahead, a new cafe in Tokyo, Japan was launched this month which only admits writers who need to finish their work on a deadline. What's more, writers can't leave the cafe unless their goal is met!

The Manuscript Writing Cafe is located in the Koenji district in Tokyo, Japan. On normal days it functions as Koenji Triangle Zone-- a distribution and shooting studio, and on its off hours, it functions as The Manuscript Writing Cafe.

Details on the cafe's website reads:

"This café is only open to people who are writing manuscripts.

When you enter, you’ll first receive a card.

Fill out the card to indicate your work goal. For example, "Finish a 2,000-word manuscript," "Write a 2-page paper," etc. Whatever goal you want to meet during your time at the café.

The manager will ask you about your progress every hour.

You won’t be able to move on to the checkout process until your goal is met.

The manager, who has no direct vested interest in you, will gently ask how you’re coming along and this will motivate you to write your manuscript!"

The minimum time spent at the cafe is 30 minutes and then the rent is charged hourly, according to their website. Facilities at the cafe include everything a writer would need, like power outlets, charging ports, high-speed Wi-Fi, and free coffee. For food and drinks, writers can bring them on their own or order in.

Writers can also choose how rigorous they want the cafe staff to be with them while checking in on them about their work. For instance: 'S' is for people who want to be checked up on aggressively, while 'M' is for writers who want gentle reminders about their work progress.

Commenting on the cafe's tense environment, a statement on their website reads, "Everyone in the café is working on a manuscript with an imminent deadline. This unique sense of tension like studying for an exam in a library will really stimulate your creative work!"

The cafe got mixed reactions from netizens for its unique concept. While some hailed The Manuscript Writing Cafe for motivating them to achieve the deadline, a few others joked about never being able to go home. Here's what some people said:
