For decades, 3D artists have been told that realism is the goal. Better lighting, materials, simulations, and ray tracing are the message we hear with every new release of Blender, Maya or Unreal Engine; it seems to promise another step towards renders that could be mistaken for photographs, renders people can't believe aren't real.
