This $300K Porsche 911 Restomod Swaps Gas Engine For Electric Motor

The Breakdown:

  • Kindred Motorworks is building an electric Porsche 911 restomod.
  • It will produce 375 horsepower from its rear-mounted electric motor.
  • Production begins next year with a $299,000 starting price, and the company is building just 12 examples.

The Porsche 911 is a driver’s dream, representing the pinnacle of combustion-powered sports cars. It wouldn’t be what is without its flat-six engine, but that doesn’t mean it pleases everyone. Some aftermarket builders are willing to buck trends and swap gas for electrons, like Kindred’s new electric G-Series 911.

Powering the 911 will be Kindred’s Grayback electric powertrain with a rear-mounted electric motor. It produces 375 horsepower, 200 hp more than the original, and 280 pound-feet of torque. The 400-volt, 62.2-kilowatt-hour battery and a 40/60 weight distribution. Kindred says the car will have a range of 225 miles.

The company says the 911 will have a “sharper response, more predictable handling, and power delivery that enhances rather than overwhelms the car’s character.” The upgrade is available on 911s built from 1974 to 1989.

Inside, Kindred adds several modern touches, like wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, an upgraded HVAC system, and heated front seats. It also comes with a MagSafe wireless charger, a Nappa leather interior, and modern controls.

Kindred says it will be producing and delivering its electric 911 starting in the first quarter of 2027. It will reveal the paint and options details in August. The starting price is $299,000, and production is limited to just 12 units. Each Porsche undergoes a complete restoration.

Motor1’s Take: Purists might hate a restomod like this, but it is always exciting to see aftermarket builders take iconic cars in new directions as technology changes. If the 911 is like Kindred’s other builds, we are confident it will be good.
