Third party websites still selling Nottingham Castle tickets despite closure

Third party websites have still been selling tickets and allowing bookings for Nottingham Castle despite the closure of the tourist attraction. It was announced on November 21 that Nottingham Castle Trust had gone into liquidation and the castle would be closed for the foreseeable future.

However, despite visitors not having access to the popular tourist attraction, some third party websites have still been allowing ticket sales for the castle. A spokesperson for the joint administrators of the trust has said: “We have been made aware that there are third party booking platforms which are still accepting bookings for Nottingham Castle.

“We are endeavouring to work with these providers to cease ticket sales immediately, and to facilitate refunds for anyone who may have purchased tickets since the castle’s closure.” The administrators said they currently do not know how many ticket orders have been placed through third party providers and are seeking this data - but they expect the numbers to be low due to the closure being well-publicised.

Some of the third party sites which had been allowing bookings include Booking.com, Love to Visit and Get Your Guide. After being contacted by Nottinghamshire Live, a spokesperson for Booking.com confirmed that the attraction had since been removed from its website and any outstanding bookings would be refunded.

Georgia Aubrey, partnerships director at Love to Visit, said: “The closure was incredibly sad news for everyone that worked so hard to support the castle and underlines the challenges the sector faces post pandemic and through the cost of living crisis. We made tickets unavailable on Lovetovisit.com as soon as we heard about the closure and haven’t sold any since that point, therefore no customer of ours has been affected.

“The castle is a fabulous attraction. Not only enormously important in itself, but for Nottingham as a wider tourist destination."

She added: "We’re certain they’ll bounce back strongly and we’ll be here to support them when they do. It’s a difficult period for the sector but there are opportunities. We built Lovetovisit.com as a mobile first digital platform to help attractions sell more tickets to new audiences.

"That kind of diversification will be critical for domestic tourism in 2023.” Similarly, a spokesperson from Get Your Guide said: "We can confirm that the listing has been removed and that anyone who might have purchased a ticket will be refunded."
