Third murder charge after remains found in mining town

Raymond Smith disappeared on December 7 and his remains were found by detectives on January 5. (HANDOUT/WESTERN AUSTRALIA POLICE)

A third man has been charged over the murder of a 68-year-old whose body was found on the outskirts of a tiny mining town in Western Australia.

Homicide detectives discovered Raymond Smith's remains on Friday in Greenbushes, 245km south of Perth, after he disappeared in suspicious circumstances on December 7.

A 30-year-old man from nearby Boyanup was charged with his murder on Thursday and is scheduled to appear in the Bunbury Magistrates Court.

Police had previously charged two other men, aged 35 and 41, with the same offence.

Greenbushes' mining operations produce tantalite, lithium, tin and kaolin.

The town has a population of about 360.
