Things you can do for free with your dad on Father's Day

If you are not sure what to get your dad for Father's Day, there are plenty of other ways to show him what he means to you.

The best thing of all is to spend some quality time together - and here we have made a list of things you can do for free with your dad on Sunday, June 19.

Whether it's a nice family walk or an activity you can all take part in at home, there'll be something in this list that most people will be able to do. And, of course, you can mix it all up and try more than one thing.

Full English breakfast

If he's a man who loves a full English breakfast, well, this is your answer - cook him a lovely breakfast. If not full English, then anything else he likes - smoothies, avocado on toast, croissants, bagels, pancakes. Can't be a better way to start the day.

Go for a long walk

Go for a stroll with the family at one of the North East's wonderful beaches, along Newcastle's Quayside or at any one of our region's beautiful parks. And have a nice chat along the way.

Have an afternoon of gaming

If video games are his thing, then bring out the consoles and spend a few hours playing his favourite games. This will also work for board or card games.

Cook a meal together

This is perfect for dads who like to cook. Bring out a recipe book, dad can choose what to make and everyone can get involved in cooking a scrumptious meal. Get any little ones in the house to help out.

Go for a picnic

This one is a lovely idea if the weather is good. Pack some food and drinks and head to your favourite picnic spot. Play some football or frisbee before tucking in.

Go on a bike ride together

Whether it's just for a few miles or a long bike ride, get your cycling gear ready and head out with your dad.

Have a garden games tournament

Get your garden games out - whether it's badminton, tennis, bowling or giant Jenga - and stage a tournament.

Help wash his car - then have a water fight

Children will love this one. They can help to wash their father's car before bringing out some water balloons or water guns and have some fun.

Have a movie night or all-day marathon

Pick out his favourite film and curl up in front of the TV with snacks and drinks at hand. Or if he is into a particular series, say Star Wars or Marvel, you can turn it into a mega movie session.
