Thierry Henry and Raheem Sterling disagree on Graham Potter's Chelsea decision in Salzburg draw

Thierry Henry and Raheem Sterling gave different opinions on a key Graham Potter decision made during Chelsea's Champions League draw vs RB Salzburg.

The Blues dropped more points and sit bottom of Group E on a single point after two games played. New manager Potter was upbeat post-match after he saw encouraging signs from his new side.

"They gave everything. We've only got a point, and we're disappointed with that, but I was very proud of how they acted today," he said. "It's not been easy for them either with the change of coach and everything that comes with that, but their response has been brilliant. They've acted really, really well: professional, honest, responsible.

"So from an effort perspective, it was 100% there. Quality to get their often was good against a good opponent. We have to credit them for how they defended and how they create chances to attack us. But we managed it quite well for the period of the game, and as I said, their goalkeeper has made some good saves, and we just lacked that little bit to get the second goal."

The first goal of the game came just after half-time when Sterling picked his spot. Chelsea's No.17 occupied a very different role as a winger/wing-back in this new system and was hooked in the 84th minute as Chelsea sought out a late winner.

It was a moment that Arsenal icon Henry highlighted in his post-match analysis as one of Potter's mistakes on the night. "We all noticed [Sterling's reaction to being subbed]," Henry told CBS Sports via the Daily Mail. "I don't know why he took Sterling off. He scored and you know he can maybe score another goal.

"It will be interesting to see how [Graham Potter] deals with that tomorrow morning because [Raheem Sterling] didn't look happy."

Sterling himself, didn't speak on the substitution decision in his post-match interview but did confirm he was happy with the new role Potter gave him on the night, suggesting there was no problem at all with the decision made in the 84th minute.

"It's a bad result in the end but I think we played some good football at times," he told BT Sport. "I'm playing in a slightly different role here with the manager, it's one I enjoy."
