Thiago Silva has asserted that he's keen to prove his doubters wrong at the World Cup after sceptics questioned his decision to join Chelsea. The 38-year-old defender has helped Brazil enjoy an unbeaten start to the tournament after keeping a clean sheet against Serbia in a 2-0 win.
Following Neymar's ankle injury, the Blues defender is set to lead his nation out against Switzerland on Monday afternoon, November 28, as he looks to extend his great vein of form for club and country. Before flying to Qatar for the World Cup, Silva featured 17 times for the west Londoners.
The Brazilian captained Chelsea on several occasions and, more often than not, he was a standout performer who led by example. However, while Silva is currently enjoying life in the Premier League, he suffered a rough teething period and many doubted him.

Speaking ahead of Brazil's second fixture of the World Cup group stage, the Blues centre-half insisted that his decision to swap Les Parc des Princes for Stamford Bridge was 'right' despite those that said otherwise and doubted him. As quoted by TribalFootball, Silva said: "It was a tough time when I left PSG.
"Although I was sure my qualities were intact, I know that others doubted me and whether the decision to switch to Chelsea was the right one. It culminated in us winning the Champions League in 2021. It was the perfect way to disprove people who doubted."
Silva added by claiming that he, and the Brazil squad, are focused on achieving their targets in Qatar this winter. He said: "Brazilian football has the ability to produce a lot of new talents.
"Every year, new stars emerge in the clubs and it ends up affecting the national team. At each position there are three or four players of the highest quality.
"It was not easy for Professor Tite to select the team. Compared to 2018, I think we are more mature. We are a really strong group and are very focused on achieving our goals."
Silva is set to leave Chelsea at the end of the season once his contract expires. And, as he continues to impress, the Blues won't want to lose the veteran defender.
"I can tell you that what is important is to continue playing at a high level and help the team to achieve the best possible results," said Silva ahead of the World Cup. "For sure, there will be a time when we need to talk, it could be before the World Cup or after the World Cup because I need to know whether I will have a new contract with Chelsea for my family arrangements.
"If I don’t have a new contract, I will have to decide what to do. For my family it's an important decision. We will see what happens."
