Thiago Alcantara posts training video as Liverpool man nears return from injury

Thiago Alcantara has posted a fresh update indicating that he is near a return to full fitness for Liverpool.

The midfielder has not played since the 3-1 Premier League home win over Newcastle United last month after testing positive for Covid and then suffering a hip injury.

Rumours began to spread online at the start of January claiming that the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich star could be out for the remainder of the season.

However, Jurgen Klopp, speaking after his side’s 4-1 FA Cup win over Shrewsbury Town at Anfield, was quick to dismiss the claims when asked about them.

He said: "No, neither March nor the end of the season in my mind, It's something around the hip, that's the situation.

"He needs time now. He didn't train this week but we expect him to be back to do rehab stuff from tomorrow on and then we will see. It is not that he is out until the end of the season, not at all."

While speaking ahead of Liverpool’s Carabao Cup semi-final first-leg clash with Arsenal, Pep Lijnders revealed the Reds were hoping Thiago would return for the FA Cup game with Cardiff City.

“Thiago, hopefully he will be in full team training after the international break to prepare for the Cardiff game,” the Dutchman told the media.

And now taking to Instagram on Wednesday night, Thiago posted a video of himself doing stretches and lunges on a fitness machine.

Liverpool return to action when they welcome Cardiff to Anfield in the fourth round of the FA Cup a week on Sunday.

The Reds then return to Premier League action four days later when they welcome Leicester City to Anfield before they face Burnley at Turf Moor three days later.

Jurgen Klopp’s side currently trail leaders Manchester City by nine points in the table, but the Reds do have a game in hand on Pep Guardiola’s side.
