Thiago Alcantara injury latest as Liverpool consider midfield options

Liverpool will give Thiago Alcantara every opportunity to prove his fitness ahead of the Champions League final.

Thiago is a major doubt for the clash against Real Madrid in Paris on Saturday having limped off shortly before half-time in the 3-1 Premier League win over Wolverhampton Wanderers at Anfield on Sunday.

The Spaniard subsequently underwent scans on an Achilles injury and while the problem isn't severe, his chances of featuring in the showpiece are considered very much in the balance.

Thiago will now undergo intensive treatment at the AXA Training Centre before a decision is made on whether he will be part of the playing squad that travels to France at the end of the week.

With Fabinho also facing a race against time to be fit for Paris having missed the last three games with a hamstring complaint, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp faces a potential midfield headache. But the availability of five substitutions could persuade the Reds boss - who will definitely be without the departing Divock Origi for the final - to take a chance on both at least on the bench.

Thiago has suffered final heartbreak once already this season having been injured during the warm-up ahead of the League Cup win over Chelsea at Wembley in February after being named in the starting line-up. However, he lasted the full 120 minutes against the same opposition in the FA Cup final earlier this month and scored in the decisive penalty shoot-out.
