‘They’re going to kill me’: Woman fled Iran for asylum in US. Then even with protection order, she was deported to African country US advises against

Many asylum seekers flee their countries because it is unsafe. However, as the Trump Administration increases immigration enforcement, the haven that was the United States has merely become a step to countries where they could be worse off. One seeker was Nika (a pseudonym to protect herself and her family). She had believed that she had successfully reached one of the best countries in the world, but her sense of safety was short-lived.

Nika reportedly spent her youth protesting the Iranian regime. So returning is a terrifying prospect. Nika told CNN, “I lost too much of my friends. They [the Islamic Republic] killed them. And some of them are still in prison. I know if I was in Iran, they’re going to kill me.” As the Iran war unfolded, and Trump promised that “help is on its way,” Nika had hope that she might get to go back home. However, her journey took a blinding turn.
