'They've got to win a title, from what I hear!' Dan Biggar piles pressure on Scotland

Wales have vowed to unload their frustrations onto Scotland this weekend as they look to bounce back from a disappointing start to the Six Nations Championship.

Gregor Townsend's side roll into Cardiff full of confidence, having won back-to-back Calcutta Cup matches for the first time since the 1980s, having seen off Eddie Jones' side 20-17 in Round One.

The Scots, given Wales' current injury woes, arrive at the Principality Stadium - a place they haven't won in over 20 years - comfortable favourites.

And Wales skipper Dan Biggar, who earns his 100th Test cap this weekend, insists the pressure is on the visitors.

"Scotland have had some good results. They had a decent autumn and they're playing with confidence," he said.

"We know they're coming in good form.

"But there's a bit of pressure on them as well this week. They've been talked up.

"They've got to go and try to win a Championship, from what I'm hearing. So let's see how they go in the tournament and we'll judge them at the end of it.

"It will be interesting to see how they come. They'll want to throw the ball about and score some tries.

"But we're focused on putting our best foot forward, which we didn't do last week."

Wales have said all the right things this week. There has been suggestions of straight-talking and brutal video analysis sessions after their 29-7 thrashing at the hands of Ireland.

Wayne Pivac has spoken of owing a performance of a certain quality to the public, with his charges unable to leave a mark at the Aviva Stadium.

Biggar insists those frustrations will be let out on Saturday afternoon.

"We spoke in the huddle at the end of the team run today and we just said that we have to use last week, we have to take that frustration out this weekend," he said.

"It doesn't matter that we're playing Scotland. Whoever we are playing, we have to take the frustrations of last week out on this Saturday.

"It just happens to be Scotland. We're hoping the frustration, the disappointment and the lack of energy in our performance last week is flipped on its head.

"For me, it's really easy to block out the outside stuff. You get experience with it. You know you'll take flak if you don't play well and it will be the same this week if we don't play well.

"Conversely, if we front up, play well and get the result, you'd like to think you'll get some credit.

"It's just making sure that we do our bit, making sure we're back in this title race."

This is certainly not the first time in his Test career that Biggar, and many others in this current Wales squad, has had to bounce back after a disappointing performance.

Middle ground is sometimes hard to find when assessing the fortunes of the Wales national side and the fly-half believes those experiences help at times like these.

"Between 2012 and 2013, we didn't win a game for Wales," he recalled.

"It's all doom and gloom. No doubt we were second best against Ireland on Saturday, but in 2014 we were lucky to come second when we played Ireland.

"Then we reversed it in the next game at the Principality Stadium.

"History tells us that when we have a poor performance, we tend to respond quite well.

"We're under no illusions and we're not papering over any cracks.

"It's easier when you have experience in these moments, when you know you've had a disappointing performance. You know that there is the ability in yourself and the team to hit back in a positive manner.

"That's what we said on Monday morning. We didn't play well and we played against a very good side. We didn't put our best foot forward.

"This is nothing new to us, responding to a tough performance.

"This time of year, all the experts come out - fans, media, ex-players - and they've got all the answers.

"It's about keeping things in-house and making sure we respond in the best way possible.

"That's by fronting up on Saturday against a team full of confidence and playing some really good rugby."
