‘They tryna be funny’: Texas Roadhouse customer calls about forgotten mushrooms, onions after ordering steak tips. Then the workers get revenge

There are countless social media stories of restaurant employees getting revenge on customers. From revoking ice privileges to those who chug their beverages to punishing poor tippers, we’ve typically seen these acts of pettiness from the employee’s perspective. Rarely do we have a glimpse of the customer’s reaction. Is Texas Roadhouse customer @sunshine_2186 one of them?

“So, why do I order beef tips from Texas Roahouse, like the family meal?” she starts the video, flipping the camera to unveil her plain chopped meat in her to-go container. “No mushrooms, no onions. It wasn’t on the side either, and they forgot the gravy.”

Instead of eating her steak dry, the content creator says she decided to take matters into her own hands. “So, I call them. It’s 10 o’clock and they close and I feel bad,” she says. “All I needed was the mushrooms, the onions, and the gravy for the mashed potatoes.”

What did Texas Roadhouse do?

Texas Roadhouse delivered, and it was more than what @sunshine_2186 bargained for. Turning the camera, she shows 16 mini containers in her refrigerator. This was just the mushrooms. Next to the mushrooms are several containers of creamy gravy.

“You think I’m done, right?” she asks, shifting over to another fridge packed with onions and gravy. But there’s more. “Are you ready for this?” After the content creator moves to the other side of the room, she opens four large containers: two with mushrooms and two with onions.

“I just needed a little bit,” @sunshine_2186 concludes, dumbfounded.

How did viewers react?

The video racked up over 188,000 views. Many viewers interpreted this negatively, feeling it was a form of vengeance and thus condemning the behavior.

“They tryna be funny and I don’t like that,” one viewer remarked.

“Passive aggressive behavior,” a second stated.

“This is actually extremely rude. They messed up then sent a message to you to not complain. You have [the right] to ask for the correct food. Smh,” a third said.

“You pissed them off, it’s very clear,” a fourth wrote.

Could there be a different reason behind this?

It’s no surprise that restaurants toss incredible amounts of food every year. Move For Hunger states that between 22 and 33 billion pounds of food is wasted annually. Texas Roadhouse employees entered the chat, claiming this wasn’t a nefarious gesture but rather an alleged attempt to reduce food waste while fulfilling the content creator’s request.

“As a Texas Roadhouse employee, it looks like they just gave you what they had left. If it was right before closing time, they would’ve had to throw all of that away,” one commenter explained.

“Nahh, I work at Roadhouse. If they were about to close, they definitely just gave it to you instead of throwing it away,” another echoed.

However, the steakhouse prides itself on its sustainability efforts on its website by serving made-from-scratch food and responsibly sourced steaks. Additionally, the company allegedly reuses remaining meat for other dishes. Mashed reported that any leftover steak is used for the kebabs, Dillo bites, and chili. So, this is probably why @sunshine_2186’s location didn’t hook her up with steak.
