Menopause most commonly occurs in women between the ages of 45 and 55 – but did you know that you could ‘predict’ what your symptoms may look like from as young as 25?
Supplement brand LYMA has teamed up with a Harley Street gynaecologist, Kevin Harrington, to create a quiz that could allow women to ‘forecast’ their menopause. (You can take the quiz here).
“There is strong scientific evidence to suggest that women who suffer from postnatal depression are far more likely to experience a difficult menopause,” Harrington says. “Hormonal levels drop around periods and again after childbirth but those women who’ve particularly suffered during those events are significantly more likely to have a severe reaction to hormonal decline in menopause.”
Yet, postpartum depression isn’t the only indicator. Other hormonal events through puberty, childbirth, and premenstrual syndrome (PMS) could also act as a roadmap for how you may experience menopause.
“The idea that one size fits all to manage menopause is completely wrong,” Harrington says. “Menopause is totally individual, and we must take a ‘needs first’ approach. How a woman is being affected by menopause, is the first question.”
While many women look to hormone replacement therapy (HRT) when the time comes, others also look at taking supplements to aid them through this transitional phase.
The LYMA supplement is a favourite as the high-grade nutraceutical is formulated with 10 patented, peer-reviewed ingredients with dosages that can support sleep, anxiety, focus and beauty.
The supplement has over 80 five-star reviews on its site with one person claiming that the ‘super supplement’ made them ‘feel better in a week’, while another said it helped to ‘transform her inner self’.
“Menopause and the conversations that surround it have, until now, centred on the idea that it takes you by surprise,” LYMA founder Lucy Goff says. “That suddenly you’re in uncharted territory and your body and mind don’t really feel like your own, but the science shows this is not the case. As women, we’ve experienced hormonal changes throughout our lives and empowering women to understand how these moments are a precursor for the next, so that they feel well equipped to deal with them, is an incredible move forward in the menopause conversation.”
