And don't get us started on the dreamy new 'coastal-cowgirl' aesthetic that has TikTok swooning right now (we've never been so ready to enter our cowgirl era!).
Spring 2023 is already proving to be a big season for nostalgic Y2K trends and reimaginings of old vibes—like the coastal grandmother style—but what other styling tips and trends do we need to be aware of? For anyone looking for some all-important spring fashion ideas, here are the pieces the fashion experts predict will be very in for the coming months...
What are the fashion trends for spring 2023?
According to celebrity stylist, Ellis Ranson, 2023's spring fashion will be very versatile indeed, encompassing everything from romantic florals to dramatic hues of cobalt. So essentially, there's definitely a brewing trend in the mix for you, no matter your style.
While we know sheer dresses and silver fashion are having their moment on the red carpet, here's a roundup of the transitional trends and shades you'll be seeing everywhere in the weeks leading up to summer...
1. Pockets, pockets and oh yeah—more pockets!
From classic shirts to Hailey Bieber's cargo pants style, pockets are the vibe for spring. As Ellis explains: "If you have been shopping recently, everywhere you look there are cargo trousers.
"This feels like an easy and accessible trend that can blend into your everyday wardrobe—whether it's a shirt or dress with pocket detailing, the staple cargo military trend is back. They are comfortable and not too complicated or scary to try."
Pair them with a tank top and some chic sunnies or with a sheer top and some gold huggie earrings for a nighttime, party-ready fit.
2. Pyjama chic
Ellis predicts that pajama chic will continue to be a hot trend this spring. For anyone who isn't familiar with this look, think silk tops or striped linen shirts and matching trousers—very Scandi-girl, Matilda Djerf vibes.
This season though, we're leaning more towards romantic and elegant, Ellis adds: "We have seen it before with the pajama chic trend.
"This time we're going for a softer approach, with delicate lace trims and sheer evening dresses. My style tip is to head to the hosiery and nightwear section for the best selection for this trend." Find us eternally in the PJ section for the next two months...
3. Denim 4eva
Denim is having a moment this spring, according to Ellis—and we're already seeing the evidence! Take, the recent Coachella outfits, for instance, Emma Chamberlain rocked a double denim co-ord over the traditional vibrant dopamine dressing style we usually see during festival season.
Ellis notes: "I know this is nothing new but with Y2K taking front stage for the past year, denims are the main go-to and not just with your jeans.
"We are seeing the denim maxi teamed with denim over-the-knee boots. Why not chuck on a denim jacket over the top? Somebody tell Britney and Justin double denim is back!"
4. The Y2K chunky belt
While the millennials among us recover from their collective shudder, yes—it seems the big belts of our youth are back.
Ellis says of this particular controversial accessory: "This trend excites me as I love a big statement belt, for more reasons than one. Not only do they hold you in and give you a great shape but they also elevate any basic look.
"My favorite tip is to always find a market stall on holiday and get some hand-crafted styles," Ellis adds.
It's more painful than we thought it would be to see our childhood fits make their way back into the style zeitgeist under the banner of 'vintage' but let's move swiftly on...
5. Flirty florals
Spring and florals truly go hand in hand, so it's time to crack out your best spring perfumes and your favorite botanical print as 2023 is no exception to the rule.
Ellis adds that this season is all about 'romantic florals' and incorporating flower elements to our fits and even our hair, adding: "Whether you are wearing them around your neck as a choker or accessorizing your top or dress, these rosettes are the go-to right now, giving every look that DIY feel; how very Gen Z of us!"
6. Wide-leg jeans
Thankfully skinny-jeans aren't back in for spring, not yet at least. Wide-leg jeans are the go-to, as we've seen on the likes of Hailey Bieber and Bella Hadid.
Pair with a shirt and white vest and you've got the perfect, versatile ensemble.
7. Ruffles
Ruffles are having a moment—case in point, Zendaya's Coachella dress AND Rosalía's pink ruffled Coachella outfit. Whether it's a ruffled dress or a top paired with jeans, ruffles are sooo in!
What are the fashion colors for spring 2023?
Now onto the hues of spring, instead of soft pastels which dominated 2022's spring line, this year will see us inject some primary colors and vibrancy into our closets...
Cobalt blue
Cobalt blue is back! Move-aside baby pink and lilac, spring 2023 is all about bold blue shades.
As Ellis explains: "We are seeing the color in dresses, jackets, skirts and especially accessories. This is a color not to miss. I know sometimes bold colors can be scary, but Kate Middleton sported the main color of this season recently and it shows a bold statement color can be classy and worn for any occasion.
"If you have a summer wedding why not give it a try, even if you go for a black dress and team it with blue accessories."
Summer Black
We know what you're thinking, black for spring? Yes—we're not retiring our go-to flattering shade just because the sun is gracing us with its presence. As Ellis says: "The color we all love to wear but feel like we should be putting it away as soon as the sun comes out—but lucky for us our go-to staple is here for all seasons.
"We are taking a lighter touch than our usual hard-wearing styles and opting for crochets and lace and light linen fabrics."
This goes hand in hand with the pajama chic trend that's also gaining traction for spring, think a black linen shirt and shorts co-ord with some silver huggie earrings and a pair of Birkenstock Bostons and you've got yourself a perfect spring fit.
Yellow
Personally, we've also spied a lot of pastel and sunshine yellow hues popping up in our FYPs recently, so perhaps fashion lovers are hoping to manifest hot weather to come with this particular hue...
