Artistic Operations / iStock.com

Prices of used vehicles in the United States have fallen considerably since peaking in 2022 and continue to move lower in 2026, according to the latest data from CarGurus.

That’s good news for car buyers’ budgets, no matter where you live. But it’s even better in markets where prices on certain used cars have fallen well below the national average. Here’s a closer look at the best-value used cars in 17 cities — and why so many used Tesla models are bargains.

Location, Location, Location

In New York City, the average cost of a Nissan Rogue is about 18% below the national average, according to an analysis from online lender NetCredit. In San Antonio, you’ll pay nearly 11% less for a Toyota Corolla than the rest of the country.

For its analysis, NetCredit built a list of the 25 bestselling vehicles in 2025 and sourced listings from Cars.com for used models from the biggest cities in every state. Researchers then identified the best-value used car model in each state. In each case, NetCredit accounted for the age and condition of the listings it analyzed.

Where Brands Rank

One thing NetCredit found in its analysis is that Tesla is the “fastest depreciating” used car brand. Tesla models offer the best value in Chicago, Los Angeles and Philadelphia. At the state level, Tesla offers the best value in Connecticut, Illinois and Pennsylvania.

Here are some other highlights involving specific brands:

  • The Ford F-150 offers the most “uneven savings at the top.” On average, a used F-150 is 12.24% cheaper than the national average in North Dakota. However, in the four other states where it’s cheapest, the savings top out at 5.63%.
  • North Dakota is also where you’ll find the best value on a used Chevrolet Silverado 1500, at 6.66% below the national average. Illinois offers the fifth-best value on a Silverado at 3.34% less than average.
  • The Honda CR-V is cheapest in Florida (8.29% below the national average), New Jersey (-7.20%) and Michigan (-4.84%).
