These are Scotland's best 'hidden gem' waterfalls well worth visiting

SCOTLAND is home to an incredible landscape with various lochs, hills and, of course, waterfalls never failing to impress.

Introducing the list of top "hidden gem" spots, travel website UK Hidden Gems noted that waterfalls are "ideal" for improving our health and wellness whether through actually swimming in their plunge pools or simply by enjoying the relaxing sounds of cascading water.

1. Crawton Waterfall – Stonehaven

Often overlooked by tourists visiting the area, the waterfall is said to be a "beautiful piece of nature" where visitors can catch a glimpse of stunning birds.

2. Falls Of Falloch - Stirlingshire

Only a five-minute walk from the nearby carpark, the Falls of Falloch has been dubbed something straight out of Jurassic Park.

The falls can become quite fierce, especially after heavy rain which is why it's recommended that visitors stand well away from the edge.

3. Falls Of Dochart - Killin

The waterfall in Killin is apparently best viewed in the winter months, especially after the snow has melted.

Visitors will know they are close to the "stunning falls" when they hear the "loud fierce noise of the water."

4. Falls of Bruar - Bruar Water

UK Hidden Gems says photos "really don't do The Falls of Bruar justice," adding that visitors are often "taken aback by how spectacular the waterfall is".

The hike to the fall is definitely worth the time with those coming here able to soak in a "fairy-tale" atmosphere.

5. Steall Waterfall - Near Fort William 

After taking on a 30-minute trek through the Scottish Highlands, you'll be rewarded with views of the Steall Waterfall.

The walk here is relatively easy with the falls offering "absolutely beautiful" scenes.

6. Plodda Falls - Near Tomich

Located in a "picturesque" forested area, Plodda Falls is perfect for any nature enthusiast looking to escape the hustle and bustle of city life.

7. Ardvreck Castle Waterfall - Near Lairg

Located just opposite Ardvreck Castle, the beautiful multi-level waterfall is worth a detour. The travel website adds that the attraction is usually missed by visitors who come for the castle.

8. Wailing Widow Falls - Near Lairg

Described as an "absolute must-visit" for those travelling along the NC500, the waterfall can be difficult to access, making it a true hidden gem.

9. Clashnessie Falls - Clashnessie

UK Hidden Gems called this place "gorgeous" and said the waterfall is "absolutely huge, especially after a few heavy days of rainfall".

10. Eas a’Bhradain - Isle of Skye

This hidden waterfall just off the roadside is great for those looking for a "secluded" spot with no disturbances.

11. Carbost Burn Waterfall - Isle of Skye

One of the easiest to get to on this list, Carbost Burn Waterfall is hidden from "more touristy" areas of the Isle of Skye.

12. Mealt Falls - Isle of Skye

Discussing the waterfall, UK Hidden Gems said: "Visitors will be rewarded with fantastic views of the Isle of Skye as well as an amazing drop waterfall which throws itself from a cliff!"

The website adds that the waterfall is ideal for a 10-minute pit stop as it is close to the roadside.
