Re your letters on what’s cool (Letters, 4 November), I am so often reminded of Barack Obama’s 2016 commencement address to graduating students at Rutgers University: “In politics and in life, ignorance is not a virtue. It is not cool to not know what you are talking about. Not knowing what you’re talking about is not keeping it real, telling it like it is, or challenging political correctness. It’s just not knowing what you’re talking about.”

• Surely the singer songwriter Nick Lowe is the ultimate in cool. He even released an album with the title Jesus of Cool.

• One can debate endlessly on the identities of the cool, but it was Huey Lewis and the News, way back in 1986, who reminded us that it’s hip to be square.
