There’s ‘no guarantee’ the League of Legends MMORPG will come out, says dev

The League of Legends MMORPG may not ever come out, according to executive producer Greg Street. However, development is going well for the time being.

As first spotted by MassivelyOP, Street spoke plainly about the status of the League of Legends MMORPG on Saturday, which has yet to receive any reliable information since its loose announcement in 2020.

“There is no guarantee this game will ship,” Street said on Twitter. “We are optimistic, but you just never know until it does. However, assuming it does, this will be the fourth major franchise I have worked on, and likely the last.”

Despite the somewhat ominous tone in Street’s message, he clarified that the project isn’t in trouble.

“Things are going super well. I am just being honest that Riot’s game standards are high, and so are the expectations of players,” Street explains on Twitter. “We won’t ship a disappointing game.”

Street also claims that Riot doesn’t want the League of Legends MMORPG to be something that disappoints and disappears from everyone’s rear-view mirror shortly after launch. So in that context, his proclamation is far less dire.

Whatever the case might be, Riot likely won’t show the game off until everything is up to its standards. There’s no shortage of fantastic MMORPGs, especially with another World of Warcraft expansion looming and Final Fantasy 14: Endwalker being a massive success.
