We’ve seen some ridiculous pitches with so much break this year that have completely fooled MLB hitters, something that’s completely understandable when the pitch looks like a Wiiffle ball.
This is one that made poor Yandy Diaz actually turn around because he was worried it would hit him. The slider came from the New York Yankees’ Greg Weissert on Friday, and per @PitchingNinja, it broke 21 INCHES!
I don’t blame Diaz. From the camera angle, it truly looks like it was coming toward him before it went right down the heart of the plate for a strike.
Fans were rightfully in awe:
What a pitch!

The instant movement measurements are estimates.
Sometimes, later results can be several inches different.
This pitch ended up "officially" having 23.76" of horizontal! https://t.co/g3AQzpi1mC— Codify (@CodifyBaseball) September 3, 2022
That pitch is crazy!🔥 https://t.co/GR6QXz0psp

You have to overcome basic human instincts to be a MLB hitter. This ball looks like it’s going to the third base dugout and ends up a strike. The more absurd the pitches get, the more irrationally brave the hitters have to be to hit. https://t.co/Lsun1JQSjk
