The Welsh postcode where nine people have bagged a huge £270,000 lottery win

Nine residents of a street in Swansea have won a combined £270,000 in the People's Postcode Lottery after their postcode was announced as a winner on Saturday, January 28. The winners, including a nurse, a grandma and a new dad are now celebrating their win.

When SA1 8BA was announced as a winner of the draw, nine residents of Kilvey Terrace won £30,000 each. Claire Mugford, 48, won the prize on the same day she was accepted to study a master's degree. Claire, a nurse at Princess of Wales Hospital, said the win was "supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!"

She said the win would help her take her kids on a trip to Disneyworld in Florida, adding: "This money means everything. There’s plenty to celebrate as my oldest daughter has just graduated to become a nurse and is getting married this year. We’re all going to Florida in August, which will be a part of their honeymoon. I think we’ll upgrade a bit now." Claire added: "We love living here so it’s nice to see so many people on the street winning."

Rachael Barry, 60, said she yelled in delight when she saw the £30,000 cheque. She said it was something "you don't ever really think is going to happen to you," adding: "We’ve never had that much money to know what to do with it. We’d like to help our kids out and take our family away with the grandkids and have a little holiday because we haven’t had a holiday for a long time."

Rachael, an art tutor working for Crisis, the charity for homeless people, lives with her husband John. She said she'd use some of the money to "spoil" John for his 60th birthday this year, and will probably plan a trip to the Cotswolds with the whole family.

Rachael’s neighbour Jenna said: "Rachael is such a lovely woman and I’m so happy and chuffed for her that she’s won the Postcode Lottery. She’s worked with so many charities over the years that she deserves to have something back."

Another neighbour, Tom Cutliffe, 34, has just become a dad - and will use the money to go on holiday with his wife and their son. He said "Anywhere hotter than Wales would be nice!" and added that the money would stretch to doing up the kitchen.

Gina Peccerella has lived in the same house on Kilvey Terrace for her whole life. She said she was "absolutely delighted," adding: "My priority has always been to help my family and friends. So, that’s what I’m happiest about as I’ve never had money like this, and to be able to share it with them is just brilliant."

Christine McCaughtrie, 65, and Linda Salmon, 72, were two of the other winners - Christine said: "It’s wonderful! We really didn’t think we’d win that much when the Postcode Lottery called to say they were coming. It’s such a shock but what a lovely shock to have."

Three other people on the street won money in the draw but have chosen to remain anonymous. Postcode Lottery ambassador Matt Johnson said: “A massive congratulations to our nine lucky winners in Swansea! It was my absolute pleasure to surprise many of our winners with this amazing amount of money. It’s been a great day with plenty of big smiles across Kilvey Terrace. I hope they treat themselves to something extra special with the money."

People's Postcode Lottery costs £10 a month to enter, with the prize draws done by postcode. There are guaranteed winners every day, and the draws raise money for charities and good causes - this one was promoted on behalf of Postcode Animal Trust, which supports charities including Dogs Trust, PDSA and Guide Dogs.
