A new restaurant-bar serving food celebrating all things Welsh is now open in Neath town centre. The venue, aptly-named The Welsh House, is located next to Juniper Place on Croft Road and is understood to have replaced Old Havana rum bar.
The restaurant-bar is the third of its kind to open following the successful launch of the first The Welsh House in Cardiff city centre in February and the launch of the brand's second venue in SA1, Swansea last month.
Explaining what customers can expect, a spokesperson for The Welsh House Neath said: "The concept is focused on supporting local Welsh suppliers, sourcing predominately locally-sourced produce and creating core Welsh partnerships. There will be a focus on sustainability throughout the business and ensuring that suppliers are aligned to this core value." The spokesperson continued: "The chefs behind the brand have been supported by frequent visitor to Neath, Marco Pierre White. They have curated a menu that's all about affordable, quality, familiar dishes. You can enjoy hearty dishes such as shepherds pie, Welsh Cawl, and proper freshly prepared mac & cheese. Not forgetting Celtic pride, grass-fed farm assured and quality Welsh cuts. [We are] working with Welsh family-owned wholesale business Castell Howell and its many independent suppliers to give you the best quality and locally-sourced ingredients.
"The Welsh House experience isn't high end or pretentious, it’s all about affordable quality experiences with family and friends. The business has hearty values, and the core offering is based upon value for money, taking into consideration the current economic climate and cost-of-living crisis," they added.
Head chef, Alberto Viola added: "I'm excited for my team to get creative and curate changing dishes based upon seasonality, sourcing quality produce from Neath general market and our trusted Welsh suppliers. We love to make your experience even more memorable and let you try something even more special and suitable to your occasion, from speciality ingredients to premium sharing dishes and steaks."
On the menu at The Welsh House you'll find delicious Welsh-inspired breakfasts, lunches and dinners - and on Sundays, you can indulge in a traditional carvery. On the drinks menu, you'll find popular local spirit brand Cygnet and other popular Welsh drinks including Penderyn whisky and Gower Brewery beers, as well as Wales and British & Irish players Mike Phillips, James Hook, Shane Williams and Lee Byrne's FabFour coffee and Welsh Perthyn low-alcohol gin.
"The Welsh House has been greatly received in Cardiff and the reviews have been phenomenal," said Wales' rugby player Lee Byrne. "It's great to see this brand growing so quickly and to see the support independent Welsh businesses are receiving, including our very own FabFour coffee and Perthyn gin."
The Welsh House Neath can be found on Croft Road in Neath town centre, SA11 1RW. According to its website, its opening times are 9am until late Monday to Sunday. Sunday Roast is served from 12pm to 6pm on Sundays.
