Jan. 25-28: Finland PM visits China

Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo pays an official visit to China from Jan. 25 to 28, accompanied by executives from over 20 companies in sectors including machinery, forestry, clean energy and food. Finland was the first Western country to sign an intergovernmental trade agreement with China. In 2025, bilateral trade exceeded $8 billion, and two-way investment stock surpassed $23 billion.

Jan. 26-27: Asian Financial Forum to be held in Hong Kong

The 19th Asian Financial Forum takes place in Hong Kong. The event, organized by the Hong Kong government and the Trade Development Council, features a new Global Business Summit to highlight the city’s strengths as an international financial center.

Jan. 27-28: Fed holds first policy meeting of 2026

The U.S. Federal Reserve convenes its first monetary policy meeting of the year on Jan. 27 and 28 to set the annual policy tone and release its first Summary of Economic Projections. Traders broadly predict the central bank will maintain interest rates at their current level.

Jan. 27: U.S. exits Paris Agreement 

The U.S. will formally withdraw from the Paris Agreement on Jan. 27. This marks the second time the U.S. has exited the global climate pact, following a withdrawal during Donald Trump’s first term in 2020 and a reentry under the Biden administration in 2021.

Jan. 27: Hang Seng Bank to delist

Hang Seng Bank Ltd. is expected to have its listing on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange withdrawn at 4 p.m. following the approval of a privatization plan by The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corp. Ltd. (HSBC).

Jan. 28: Verdict due for South Korean First Lady

A court is scheduled to deliver a verdict in the case involving Kim Keon-hee, wife of former South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol. Prosecutors requested a 15-year prison term and a fine of 2 billion won ($1.35 million) for alleged stock manipulation and bribery.

Jan 28: Tesla reports fourth quarter earnings

Tesla Inc. plans to release its financial results for the fourth quarter of 2025. The company produced more than 434,000 vehicles and delivered over 418,000 during the quarter, while deploying a record 14.2 gigawatt-hours of energy storage products.

Jan 28: Snack chain Busy Ming debutes in Hong Kong

Busy Ming Group Co. Ltd., the Chinese mainland’s largest discount snack chain, is set to list on the main board of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange under the stock code 01768. The IPO attracted eight cornerstone investors with a total subscription of approximately $195 million.

Feb. 1: Saudi Arabia opens capital market

Saudi Arabia will open its capital market to direct investment from all categories of foreign investors. As of the third quarter of 2025, international investors held more than 590 billion riyals ($157 billion) in the Saudi capital market.

Feb.1 : China implements new foreign investment catalog

China’s 2025 edition of the Catalogue of Encouraged Industries for Foreign Investment comes into force. The updated list aims to guide more foreign capital into advanced manufacturing, modern services, high-tech sectors and energy conservation, as well as toward the central, western and northeastern regions.

Feb. 1: New financial regulations come into force

Several financial regulations take effect, including the National Financial Regulatory Administration’s new rules on commercial bank custody businesses and the management of financial product appropriateness. The latter requires institutions to strictly manage the sale of investment products with uncertain returns or potential principal loss.

Feb. 1: Shanghai implements new drone rules

Shanghai’s new safety regulations for low-altitude flight come into operation. Under the new system, micro, light and small drones can fly in appropriate airspace without prior declaration, while flights in controlled airspace require approval from air traffic management.
