The Wanted release new version of Gold Forever single in memory of Tom Parker

The Wanted have recorded a new version of one of their hit singles for charity in memory of their bandmate Tom Parker, following his tragic death.

Band members Max George, Siva Kaneswaran, Jay McGuiness and Nathan Sykes re-recorded Gold Forever, first released in 2012, with proceeds from the single set to go to The Brain Tumour Charity, The Mirror reports .

Tom passed away in March less than 18 months after he was diagnosed with a brain tumour, aged just 33.

A “very special” acoustic version of Gold Forever was played at Tom’s funeral last week, at which his four bandmates were pallbearers, at the request of his wife and family.

The band have made the song available for fans to download in memory of Tom, with the full name of the updated single entitled ‘Gold Forever (For Tom)’.

The Brain Tumour Charity funds research, raises awareness and provides support and information to people with brain tumours.

Their chief executive Alex Lochrane said: “Gold Forever (For Tom) is a beautiful song and a moving tribute to Tom, and we are profoundly grateful to The Wanted that donations from the sales of this single will help us fund world-class research and vital support services for anyone affected by brain tumours.

"Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with Tom’s wife Kelsey, their children, family and friends at this saddest of times, as well as with fans of The Wanted worldwide."

The band released a cover for their re-recorded single on their Instagram page (Instagram / @thewantedmusic)

Fans were moved by the tribute to Tom, with messages of support pouring in on the band's Instagram page.

"I bet he's smiling down feeling very proud of you boys," one person wrote. "He would've loved this."

"Such a beautiful rendition and a lovely way to keep his memory alive," another said.

Gold Forever reached number three in the charts when it was first released a decade ago, becoming The Wanted’s third hit to reach the UK Top 10 after All Time Low and Heart Vacancy.

The Wanted were among the first to pay tribute to Tom when his wife Kelsey broke the heartbreaking news of his death last month.

The tribute posted to the band’s social media pages read: "Max, Jay, Siva, Nathan and the whole Wanted family are devastated by the tragic and premature loss of our bandmate Tom Parker, who passed away peacefully at lunchtime today surrounded by his family and his band mates.

"Tom was an amazing husband to Kelsey, and father to Aurelia and Bodhi. He was our brother, words can’t express the loss and sadness we feel.

"Always and forever in our hearts."

Max recently opened up on Instagram about the experience of carrying Tom’s coffin along with his other bandmates during the funeral service.

He wrote: "Good night beautiful boy. I will always think of you. Thanks for making my life so much better than I could ever have hoped for. Carrying you was an honour."
