The Walking Dead has never treated its characters as untouchable. Across 16 years, the AMC franchise has built a reputation for killing off familiar faces, sometimes with little warning and often when audiences least expect it.
But the third season of The Walking Dead: Dead City took that habit in a different direction. Four major characters were removed from the story, including figures who had been closely tied to the show's earlier seasons and others who had only recently become important to the spinoff.
