Sam Mitchell has described Hawthorn's home-and-away thrashing from Brisbane as a much-needed "wake-up call" as he plots a way to derail the Lions' bid for an AFL premiership three-peat.

The Hawks were a long way off the pace in their 67-point belting at the Gabba last month, which at the time cast serious doubts over their flag credentials.
