The Vivienne says her marriage break-up has 'nothing to do' with Dancing On Ice partner

Popular Welsh drag queen and Dancing On Ice Star The Vivienne has shut down any rumours that her marriage break-up was a result of her friendship with her Dancing on Ice professional partner. The star, who confirmed earlier on Friday, April 14 that she and her husband of three years David had split up, has now issued an update to put an end to speculation that her partnership with pro ice-dancer Colin Grafton was to blame for her and David's break-up.

Adding a comment to her earlier post on Instagram, The Vivienne wrote: "And just everybody knows as I’m already seeing tweets. This has nothing do with Colin my Dancing On Ice partner. We are very good friends and never involved romantically, Colin is in a relationship. Thank you".

The comment comes after some jumped onto The Vivienne's earlier post announcing her break-up - which you can read more about here - and blamed the so-called 'Dancing on Ice curse'. The 'curse' is the belief that competition series like Dancing on Ice and Strictly Come Dancing are to blame for relationship and marriage fallouts, either because celebrity competitors have got close with, or fallen for, their professional partners and have ditched their real-life partners for them - or because of the stress and long-hours celebrity contestants have to put in for the programmes.

Earlier, The Vivienne confirmed that she and her husband had split up, but said the pair remain friends and "wish each [other] the absolute best". "As many may have noticed, David and I have been apart recently. We have made the decision to part ways after an amazing five and a half years," The Vivienne said.

"We are still very much friends, but sometimes life gets in the way and people grow apart. We wish each the absolute best and will always be part of each other's lives. We'd ask that you please respect our privacy at this time. Thank you. James and David,"

The Vivienne, full name James Lee Williams, was born and raised in Colwyn Bay in north Wales and moved to Liverpool when she was 16 years old. The Vivienne chose her name because she was known for wearing Vivienne Westwood clothing - and added the 'The' to make her name more unique and memorable. In May 2015, The Vivienne was crowned the UK Ambassador of RuPaul's Drag Race and she later won the first series of RuPaul's Drag Race UK.

She began dating her husband David five and a half years ago and the pair got married in a glitzy ceremony in December 2019.
