Winter Olympian Madeline Schizas has updated fans on the status of her studies after her request for an extension on her imminent assignment went viral.
ICYMI, the Canadian figure skater and student set the internet alight when she shared a pic of an email she sent to her sociology professor asking whether she could submit a task past the deadline because she was competing in the Olympic Winter Games.
For extra measure, Schizas added the equivalent of a doctor’s note by linking to a press release confirming she was, in fact, in Milan, where the Games kicked off over the weekend.

Schizas sent the email just hours after she’d taken to the ice for Team Canada and right ahead of another scheduled performance, so as far as excuses go, it shits all over the dog eating her homework.
“LOL I [love] being a student athlete,” Schizas captioned the pic on her Instagram Stories.
As someone who would request an extension simply because my hair was misbehaving, Schizas’ email induced an understandable level of anticipation.
Is this acceptable grounds for an extension? Is this one of those ‘cool’ professors who raps the syllabus and will therefore let Schizas’ excuse fly? Should I invest in better shampoo and conditioner? Sorry, my hair’s misbehaving again.
Anyway, Schizas provided an update earlier today, confirming on her Instagram Stories earlier today that she was thankfully granted the extension by her professor.
“Since it seems everyone is quite invested, I did get my extension lol. can’t believe anyone cared so much,” she wrote.

Bringing this story to its full-circle moment, Schizas later reshared a pic of the professor — identified as McMaster University’s Vic Satzewich — watching on as she competed in Games. “So proud of you Maddie,” he captioned the pic. Why am I crying?
In a follow-up interview with The Wall Street Journal, Satzewich revealed that Schizas neglected to mention her Olympian status during the course, even when he guided an introductory icebreaker session.
A figure skater biting her tongue even when the word ‘ice’ is in the game? Truly demure behaviour. “I respect the fact that she wasn’t using that as a reason to get special treatment or accommodations,” Satzewich said — and I simply must agree.

It’s not the first time a Canadian has made headlines with this Winter Olympics season, with Calgary-born Tate McRae copping heat over her promo ad for Team USA and Heated Rivalry star Hudson Williams doing his home country proud as a torchbearer.
