Spring is finally here! Whether that’s decorating with vases around the house or considering a pop of color by way of a new throw pillow, spring tablecloth, or outdoor rug, there are all sorts of simple ways to bring about a fresh feel into your home this spring without spending a ton of money or overhauling your entire space.
In order to help give you some ideas for chic new spring decor, I've asked H&G editors what they are buying this month to give their homes a season refresh. I have to say, I was incredibly impressed by their inventive ways of incorporating some spring into your home for joyful, colorful spaces, and I’ve already added about five of these options to my cart.
‘Spring is when I come out of hibernation and am ready to start hosting again,’ says Hebe Hatton, Head of Interiors. ‘And what instantly transforms my dining space is a new uplifting tablecloth.’
She loves this one from H&M Home because it serves as a great base for all the colorful spring flowers and serveware she likes to adorn her table with. ‘While of course I love a patterned tablecloth, this one means I can layer different patterns and shapes without having to worry about things clashing–all simply because I have this gorgeous, simple green backdrop,’ she says.
‘These linen stripe pillow covers have a refined, breezy feel to them,’ adds Hebe. ‘I will especially be using them outdoors, since their 100 percent cotton lining ensures that they’re also machine-washable and easy to clean.’
‘With a light cream tone and expressive fringe, the Lorenzo Cream Grid Throw is cozy and versatile,’ emphasizes Content Editor Molly Malsom. ‘The throw features a subtle grid motif, adding an interesting element to bedding layering or sofa styling.’
This throw has been designed specifically with comfort in mind, too, thanks to its acrylic and polyester blend.
‘I keep flowers around my house throughout the year, but when spring comes around, you can count on there being a vase in every room,’ eCommerce Editor Laura Honey tells me.
While Laura has different vases dotted around the house, this is a simple style that she always comes back to. ‘This has been sourced from Portugal, the home of clay craftsmanship. It’s been designed with natural textures and made big enough for a large bouquet. So, It feels premium, but the price tag is really reasonable.’
‘Spring is when I want to throw open the windows and let fresh air into the house, but if the weather has different ideas, I’ll light a fresh candle and fill the room with my favorite fragrances,’ Laura says.
While she admits that some people like to enjoy light florals around this time of year, her preferences err on the herbal and fruity side. ‘Nobody does that better than Jo Malone’s Lime, Basil, and Mandarin candle. The zesty lime, fresh basil, aromatic thyme, and warm mandarin make my house feel like it’s been reinvigorated. It gives the air a spring clean (and even gives me some motivation to do some spring cleaning myself!).’
'If you're a hot sleeper and you live in a warmer climate, you might be struggling to sleep as the weather warms up,’ says eCommerce Editor and our resident sleep expert Emilia Hitching. ‘For a lightweight layer, I recommend the Makena Throw Blanket.’
As it’s made from a unique blend of cotton, wool, and linen, this little throw is breathable, yet durable, and comes in a few colors to complement any bedroom color palette, which is why it’s Emilia’s top pick. ‘I like the blue best,’ she adds. ‘It would look just as good spread over the end of your bed as it would draped across the back of your sofa.’
‘I'm looking to upgrade my alfresco hosting game as the weather improves, and these bounce-proof floral plates by McGee & Co will allow me to save my best crockery for the indoors,’ says Content Editor Charlotte Olby.
She loves the unique look on them, too: The bold green and floral motif is just so different, and has an artisan feel to it.
‘Speaking of my garden, I’m looking to improve the chill-out spots in my outdoor space,’ adds Charlotte. ‘This hammock by Sarah Sherman Samuel for Lulu & Georgia ticks all the boxes: striped, wavy, and perfect for hanging out.’ It’s stylish, yet laid-back at the same time.'
‘Like most McGee & Co. creations, this metal easel is streamlined and sleek, but has so much potential,’ says News Writer Abby Wilson. She looks to it as a clever alternative to hanging artwork on walls or simply propping pieces up on bookshelves.
‘An easel elevates even the simplest print,’ she adds. ‘Spring is the perfect time to give your home a spruce, and this piece would be such a thoughtful touch.’
‘I can’t resist picking up fresh flowers when the weather starts to warm up, but I never seem to have the perfect vase,’ says Abby. However, she’s found a winner with this pick from Anthropologie.
‘This vase is so adorable and dainty. It comes in three lovely colors that are practically begging to be mixed and matched: Plus, I can only imagine how gorgeous these will be in the sunlight with their stained-glass look.’
‘I love incorporating more color into my home as we transition into spring, and this yellow pillow is currently on my wishlist,’ says News Writer Emily Moorman. ‘I love the subtle yet impactful dose of sunshine yellow it'll bring to my neutral living room.’ The playful pattern would make a statement pretty much anywhere, especially if you have guests over that you want to impress.
I’m such a huge fan of Justina Blakeney’s maximalist interior design, and her new collection with Ruggable is colorful, durable, and super easy to clean. I’ve never used a rug outdoors before, but with the Hilma Papaya rug, I’m strongly inclined to change my mind: Not only is it weather-resistant and durable, but it’s just so fun! I’m obsessed with the asymmetric design and vibrant colors that perfectly encapsulate summer vibes.
While everyone’s design style is different, one thing we all have in common once spring rolls around is our love of color, texture, and hosting. Hopefully, one of our team’s options will inspire your spring updates, and allow you to add some warm weather glam into your space this season.
