It’s been a week, golf fans. And now the fun stuff begins.
The three days leading up to the U.S. Open at The Country Club in Brookline have had no shortage of important storylines.
From Phil Mickelson looking like a shell of himself while talking to the media about his tarnished legacy, to Jon Rahm perfectly explaining why LIV Golf ins’t for him and to Brooks Koepke throwing a tantrum about being asked important questions, it has been a lot.
Now things are officially underway on a legendary course and this week could end up being the best U.S. Open of all time and I am here for all of it.
The LIV storyline will be a thing all week, as it should be. It will be interesting to see how those players, who have left the PGA Tour for the dirty money from a Saudi government that executed 81 people last March, handle the situation and how the fans in Boston handle the players.
It will be fun to see guys like Rahm, and Rory McIlroy, and Justin Thomas – who have been staunch defenders of the PGA Tour – fight to win this tournament and send a message to those who have sold their souls for the other league.
There are so many other players who could win their first major championship and have life-changing weeks this week at an incredible venue. Max Homa, Will Zalatoris, Cameron Smith, Sam Burns, and Xander Schauffele are just a few of those guys.
The world No. 1, Scottie Scheffler, has four wins this year, including the Masters in April and could wrap of Player of the Year honors in June with a win here.
Jordan Speith is always must-see TV and could be contending come Sunday.
The only thing missing from this is Tiger Woods, who won’t be playing in the U.S. Open, which is a bummer but was the right call by the GOAT.
Then there’s the golf course. The Country Club is one of the most historic courses in the golf history and if you’ve seen any photos of it this week then you know it’s in absolute pristine shape and ready to be a very serious test to the best golfers in the world.
These four days are going to be a lot of fun, folks. Enjoy the heck out of it!
